Ten Tips to Avoid Dizziness in the Car

Taking a trip, by car or any other means of transport, seems at first joy for everyone, but there are people who get to have a really bad time with these. And it is that for those who suffer dizziness on trips there is nothing pleasant. It is best to understand why they occur ... and then know how to avoid them.

Why Dizziness Occurs?

Dizziness in transportation is known as "motion sickness" or "motion sickness." They occur because the brain needs to know the position of the body at all times, something that it achieves with the data provided by the senses, as well as the locomotor section. In a means of transportation, the movement does not depend on ourselves. Occasionally, the feeling of moving without performing the movements by himself is strange to us.

Why Dizziness Causes Vomiting?

Because a sensory mismatch occurs based on what we see and the data the rest of the body sends, the brain thinks it is due to a neurotoxin. Nausea occurs because the brain believes poisoning has occurred and that bacon needs to be removed. Hence, our body vomits, to expel it. There are people more prone than others to suffer dizziness in the car. The reasons are unknown, but there are tricks to prevent it from occurring.

1. Choosing the Right Car Seat:

If you are prone to dizziness, the important thing is to give the brain adequate information that you are moving to. Always choose a seat in the direction of travel (especially in vans and carvans) and, whenever possible, the passenger seat, since from there it is easier to observe the road and the view "warns" the brain and the hearing of the movements that are going to take place. In addition, those movements that occur in the car are more noticeable the further back we go in the vehicle, due to inertia.

In this same way, between the rear seats, it is easier to see the outside in the center than on the sides. Granted, it's more uncomfortable in today's cars (it's usually narrower and harder), but it's better than cleaning up vomit later, believe me.

2. Smooth Driving:

The driver does not usually suffer from motion sickness. He always watches the road and his brain is ahead of the actions he is going to take. For example, it knows that it is approaching a curve and the brain asks for the movements that the body will have when it takes it. Be careful, there are extreme cases of people suffering from dizziness even while driving.

Of course, the driving you do can prevent your passengers from becoming dizzy on the journey. The more predictable and smooth driving is, avoiding sudden braking and acceleration, and especially taking curves progressively, the more likely it is that nobody will get dizzy. The type of road through which it circulates also influences. It is more difficult to get dizzy going on a high capacity road than on a secondary road because the movements of the vehicle are greatly reduced.

3. Front View:

No reading in the car or doing activities that require staring at a point in the cabin. with this, you are only giving more possibilities to that your brain sends inadequate information to the ear and the discomfort begins. Similarly, it is better to look forward than to the sides, to have more information about the movements that will occur. And yes, it helps to be entertained. Listening to music or talking to other passengers not only makes the trip more enjoyable but also helps to avoid dizziness.

4. Adequate Ventilation:

It is very important to ventilate the interior of the vehicle before starting off to eliminate odors, especially if it has been closed for a long time. In addition, when the symptoms of dizziness appear, it can also help us to open the window a little: the fresh air reduces sweating, improves breathing, and increases the oxygen content.

5. Beware of Children:

Studies have shown that children under 12 are more likely to get dizzy than adults. The reason is simple. At an early age, the brain is still immature in balance control. In adults, the brain has learned from past situations and knows how to adapt to the body accordingly. For this same reason, an adult tends to get dizzy by boat ... unless he has experience in those races.

It also increases the possibility of dizziness any disorder that weakens the body or balance. In addition to children, attention must be paid to the elderly, the sick, pregnant women, and people with anxiety symptoms.

6. Meals:

It is not convenient to travel immediately after the meal, but if there is no other choice, follow our advice on eating well before a trip: healthy, scarce (to avoid heavy digestions), and better based on solid foods. Try to drink from time to time, but avoid alcoholic beverages.

7. Frequent Stops:

In addition to avoiding drowsiness and tiredness, frequent stops (the recommendation is every 200 km), help the driver to avoid back pain. In addition, passengers also benefit from stretching their legs, going to the bathroom, and having a drink to clear themselves and make it more difficult for the dizziness to appear.

8. Avoid Thinking About It:

Don't think you're going to get dizzy. Getting in the car already thinking that we are going to get dizzy makes it more likely. As we said, the conversation helps since less attention is paid to the movements. It is better to travel asleep, because that way movement is less perceived, reducing the possibility of dizziness. If not possible, closing the eyes also helps reduce discomfort, in many cases reducing the feeling of instability.

9. At the First Symptoms:

Drinking cold helps curb the feeling of nausea that accompanies dizziness. For that same reason, opening the windows and not having a cabin with too much heat (maintaining a temperature between 21 and 23 degrees) helps to stop the first symptoms.

10. Travel Prepared:

Try to carry dizziness bags and change clothes for the little ones, it is more difficult for them to avoid or anticipate dizziness. There are also medications that relieve symptoms of dizziness. One of the most common is dimenhydrinate (it will sound more like Biodramina, its trade name), which in addition to being presented in pills also in chewing gum, which accelerates its absorption by the body and its taking is more friendly for the little ones. However, before adding it to your medicine cabinet in the car , check with the pharmacist. Remember that they usually cause drowsiness, so avoid being taken by the driver.
