Hybrid Car or Electric Car, What to Choose?

Few of us wonder how to differentiate between so-called hybrid and electric vehicles. This article will explain how to choose one of these energies depending on your type of driving or wish to participate in improving the quality of our air.

Hybrid Vehicles a Journey towards a Cleaner World:

Hybrid Controller: capable of managing and ensuring the Start & Stop procedures. This system is developed by all generalist manufacturers and in all types of car segments.

Mild-hybrid:  is the most developed and successful to date. This technology allows 100% electric use over short distances or low speeds using both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. In the case of 100% electric use, the engine cuts out to leave room only for clean energy. (examples of vehicles: Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, Toyota Prius).

Rechargeable hybrid: Thanks to the use of integrated plugs, vehicles already “mild-hybrid” can be extended their autonomy in 100% electric like the “Volvo V60 Plug-in” or the “Prius rechargeable”, which can reach 100Km in 100% electric! Depending on the brands, the autonomy of this category of a plug-in hybrid is close to that of a fully thermal vehicle with petrol engines. which allows use in all circumstances, unlike fully electric models.

Electric Cars:

The manufacturers strongly believe in the technology of electric cars. Certainly, to date the autonomy does not exceed 200 km for the best cars, under normal conditions of use. Let's not forget that these vehicles absolutely do not pollute! No CO² emissions are emitted during the entire life of the car. In general, these models use recharging using specific sockets installed in the home or sometimes in public places for an annual subscription from the manufacturer. In the same way that you use a mobile phone, a camera or your coffee machine, your electric car plugs into the appropriate terminal and the batteries are recharged to allow their use.

Advantages or Disadvantages:

Since the introduction of ecological bonuses in 2009, sales of cars with hybrid technologies as well as 100% electric have benefited from their growing notoriety and have continued to increase drastically, in this first half of 2016 alone, almost 21,000 vehicles have been registered in France and more than 2,000 for 100% electric. Or 3% and 1% respectively of sales on the whole fleet of private vehicles. So yes, the major advantage of these technologies remains their increasing reliability and is gradually becoming part of French customs. The major drawback, on the contrary, is the cost of production of vehicles which sometimes come close to a certain disproportion.

For example, the Toyota Prius (best-selling hybrid model in the world) is as expensive to produce from the creation of the vehicle until delivery as a 140hp Jeep Cherokee diesel, emitting double CO² per kilometer 74g against 147 for a difference of 10 to 12,000 € on the order form. To conclude, everyone can ride a hybrid on the condition of playing the game of hunting for consumption and responsible driving!
