6 Summer Car Care Tips
Hot weather can cause different types of damages to your car. It is not only important to take care of your car in winter, but car care is also required in summer days. Here are a few tips to keep your car in good shape this summer.
- Coolant System
Keeping cool is necessary not only for us but also for cars. Check the level of coolant fluid in your car, and take a look at the state of hoses and the coolant reservoir. Pay attention to any leakages especially at joints and connection points. Do not forget to squeeze the hoses when the engine is cool in every once in a while to make it sure they feel firm.
- Other Essential Fluids
Make it sure to check brake, oil, power-steering and windshield-washer fluids regularly. These liquids continue being used and consumed. You can check the condition of those parts associated with these fluids and get them maintained if they are not working well.
- Air-Conditioning System
Importance of air conditioning in summer cannot be undermined. If the system was not in good condition in winter, now is a good time to get serious. In case it is an older system then leaking Freon into the atmosphere is not good. Plenty of leak-sealing products and refrigerant rechargers can be found on nearby stores. Keep in mind if there is not enough refrigerant in the system, you have a leak. It is better to get the leak repaired by a mechanic before paying to have the air-conditioning system recharged.
- Air Filter
Your car’s air filter, drainage points or windshield-washer nozzles may be getting clogged up due to winter’s decomposing leaves. It is better to buy a new one or give the current one a cleaning. Many modern cars come with pollen filters or cabin filtration systems, so it is better to take a look at these too. Sometime you may find changing these cabin filters yourself. If you find yourself in any confusion regarding this, consult with a professional technician.
- Tires
Tires get wear and tear and it is better to check these regularly all year around. Consult with the manual and make sure pressure is correct. In addition to pressure, treads should be free of stones, and all four should be in good condition.
- Dashboard Sunshade
For those times when your car is not moving but is still in shades, it is better to have a cover that goes in the windshield and protects the dashboard items from ultraviolet rays. By doing so, your cabin can stay a little cooler. Consider shades for the rear windows too so kids can also get some protection.
